Ceropegia linearis ssp. woodii 'String of Spades' 13cm Hanging Basket
Ceropegia woodii 'Heartless' - String of Spades
The Ceropegia woodii 'Heartless' - String of Spades is the exceedingly more rare variety of woodii
This attractive plant produces distinctive green, patterned, spade-shaped leaves and may have some purple flushing on the undersides.
Ceropegia woodii 'String of Spades' is a tuberous, evergreen perennial that produces long, trailing shoots with spade-shaped, succulent leaves. Flowers are lantern-shaped and pink-purple in colour, they measure approximately 2cm in length. Its distinctive leaves and attractive trailing habit make it a great houseplant, it's less commonly found compared to the classic String of Hearts. This plant looks amazing in a hanging basket; allow the leaves to cascade over the edges for a spectacular visual!
Water: This plant can tolerate a little neglect in watering. Just water thoroughly and let the soil get dry between waterings. Check the soil and water when it gets about 90% dry.
The watering frequency depends upon the weather and the growth zone. Generally, once or twice a week is enough for the summer. However, the dormant winter plant needs a little water. Once in every 12 to 15 days will be enough to keep the plant happy.
These plants hate standing in water. Thus, avoid over-watering or keeping the soil soggy.
Light: The vine loves to be in bright indirect sunlight. Any well-lit spot or window is ideal to keep the plant. Make sure the sun rays do not reach the delicate foliage directly.
Temperature: The ideal temperature range for the plant is between 18 to 28 °C. At night, it is better to keep the temperature above 5°C. These plants have poor tolerance for cold and frost. Thus, make sure you transfer them to a warmer spot as soon as the temperature is expected to fall below 5 °C.
Humidity: No extra demands of humidity from the Woodii vines. The average humidity of your area is enough to keep the plant happy.
Soil: Any well-draining houseplant mixture like a cactus or a succulent mixture is good to go.
Fertilizer: These delicate vines donât like heavy feeding. Use any ordinary house plant fertilizer in the diluted form once a month from Spring to Summer months. The colder days make the plant go dormant. So, you donât need to provide any fertilizer in winter. Personally I use slow release fertiliser (6-12months) which is best to use for all house plants.
