Exceptional Onehunga Woollen Mills CAR RUG Collectible Wool Blanket with Wahine Label

Key Feature: A very special New Zealand Wool Historical blanket.

This blanket is an exceptional condition Onehunga Woollen Mills car rug. We believe this is a more recent release than the originals produced over 100years ago placing it late 1960's/early 1970's.

It is stunning condition with smooth velvet like surface.

Blankets of type were made of very fine wool, spun into fine yarn and then woven tightly making it a dense firm durable blanket. The surface is completely smooth with no prickle factor at all.

Woven with a double weave technique, it is effectively two blankets that are woven together as one. One in solid colour for the reverse and one in pattern for the front. This makes the blanket extra thick, approx 3mm. We are in awe of this process!

Oversize car rug dimensions at 140cm x 178cm.

Patterned side is light mauve taupe, darker chocolate brown and light cream check pattern with a fine red and green detail. The reverse side is solid medium taupe.

Tassels top and bottom edges.

The star of this rug is the wonderful oversized label. There is wonderful detail in this label. It is larger than usual measuring 75mm x 72mm. The label is in excellent condition.

There are a few superficial flaws to the surface that only reach the first layer. No patch repairs added.
